Migrating between major drupal versions requires a significant effort. Thanks to the migrate module this task has become more manageable. Good news is that migrate has made it into core, so you'll have it available as soon as Drupal 8 is ready!

There is already a Drupal-to-drupal extension module for migrate. Using that as base there is a now a Drupal 6 to Drupal 8 module almost complete and the effort for Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 functionality already started.

The plan is for D8 migrate to be extended and not only cover content migration, but configuration as well. That will make migrate module a very important part of the Drupal 8 toolset.

During this session we will review inner workings of current D7 migrate module, migration process workflow and progress of D8 module.
