There are many ways to construct a site in Drupal, from nodes to views pages to panels to custom menu callbacks to blocks to turning on the PHP filter and coding right into the body of an Article node (please don't ever do this). Content can be transformed from database entries to HTML in a number of ways. The question is, what is the right way? A better way to phrase this might be,
"What is going to give me the most flexibility with the least amount of custom code and still make my site easy to manage for my clients and me?"
I've built and launched a large network of sites in Drupal. This session will focus on the methodologies I have honed over the years to create consistent and flexible sites that are still easy to manage by administrators and content managers alike.
This session will be centered more around methodology than technicality. The main focus will be how these pieces all work together to create a fun and usable Drupal experience.
- Content Analysis
- Everything in Panels (Yes, I mean EVERYTHING!)
- Leveraging Views Content Panes
- Client Value-Add modules
- Using Bean with Contextual Links
- Admin Sidebar
- Shortcuts
In the end, you'll come away with a clear view of your site's architecture and a flexible system for displaying your site's content that safely maximizes your client's level of control over the content.
I'd like to leave a little extra time for questions, but if I'm just that good and there are none, I'll go over a few modules tricks I use to clean up the interface and speed site building along.
Jen Lampton proposed a session: Build Better Websites With Panels. I think this would be a good companion session as I won't be getting very technical.
